Rainbow Dusts glitters & dusts

Cake-stuff.com is delighted to introduce and recommend Rainbow Dust . . . quite probably the best range of cake glitters and glitter dusts you can buy today - and they're made in the UK!

Compared to other brands like Gemz and Edable Art, many customers have told us Rainbow Dusts are much better, have a more brilliant "sparkle" and they are not water soluble, so won't dissolve if they come into contact with moist icing.

Rainbow Dusts are 100% food approved cake glitters cut by laser to give each tiny particle a prismatic surface which catches the light for a breathtaking effect.  Please experiment with colours and add a new shade or two to your collection each time you visit as the pots will last for ages.

Don't be put off by the size of the range . . . we've split the range into the following categories to make browsing a little easier.  Rainbow Dusts are split into two main categories . . . the Edible Silk Range and the Sparkle Range, then split into the sub-categories as follows.

If you're looking for the brightest, sparkliest range of colours then please see the Jewel range.

Edible Silk Range:

Irridescent Colours - white based dust that gives a subtle sparkle in the said colour.  Use for delicate, subtle highlights.

Metallic Colours - strong, powerful colours with bold, metallic sparkle for metallic highlights and the ulimate cake "bling".

Pearl Colours - soft, gentle pastel colours, blended to give lovely shades with subtle pearlescent finish.

Starlight Colours - using latest technology, these colours use an extra bright laser-cut base powder to give a stronger sparkle than any other range.  Great colours with a bright, light-catching sparkle

The Sparkle Range:

IMPORTANT UPDATE . . .  latest information from Environmental Health is that the Sparkle Range should really only be used on items which are being removed from the cake.  The consensus has always been that (as the product is specifically designed for use with cakes) if the glitter finds its way on to icing etc and is eaten then it will not cause any harm.  Environmental Health have asked the Food Standards Agency (FSA) for more research on these products and to clarify the position, so we do not recommend "intentional" use . . . eg sprinkled on cupcakes . . . even although you'll see Kirsty Allsop, The Hairy Bakers, Nigella Lawson and just about every other TV chef doing exactly that on their Christmas specials!?!?!

There is no reason to suspect that the products are unsafe but there is now a call for much more detailed information.  As with many things . . . eating large amounts is not advisable, but ingesting small amounts is safe . . . we just have to be clear about whether or not we are seen to advise customers to sprinkle these on to cakes as if they were classed as "edible" .  We've not changed our position, but we want to be clearer.  We hope you'll understand.

Crystal Colours - a very intersting colour which is well worth experimenting with!  The multi-coloured sparkles have a semi-translucent base colour  so that what may appear, for example, to be a pastel green colour will reveal peach and purple sparkle highlights and the translucent property means the colour of the base material (eg white, ivory or colour sugarpaste) can dramatically affect the final appearance.

Glacier Colours - a range of extremely subtle colours with fantastic light-reflecting sparkle properties for an almost holographic effect.

Graphite Colours - a small collection of deeper, strong colours with bright sparkling highlights.

Hologram Colours - a range of standard colours for everyday use but with the special laser-cut bright sparkles, which give a rainbow (almost holographic) effect.

Jewel Colours - a range of vibrant colours which sparkle with the same colour throughout so, for example, a blue dust would sparkle with blue highlights.  Great for detail on colour themed cakes.

Pastel Colours - as the name suggests, a range of subtle colours with delicate hues and a nice sparkle.

Stardust Colours - a range of simple, popular, strong colours which sparkle with a secondary colour throughout for really light-catching detail.  For example, a red dust may sparkle with yellow / white / orange highlights.

Rainbow Dusts couldn't be simpler to use . . .  sprinkle on to icing or apply more precisely using a little edible glue or confectioners' glaze

As you browse through the Rainbow Dusts, please be sure you are purchasing the correct product as we cannot accept the return of edible items (even if unopened) for food safety reasons.  This does not affect your statutory rights.

Please remember colours shown on this site are limited by photography and shades may appear to vary on different PC monitors.
